Deer hunters enjoy the benefit of a vast number of public lands to hunt on each season. These game lands are heavily hunted, but you may still be able to bag yourself a few decent deers there. In fact lots of people only hunt on public lands each season.

In addition to the public lands, you will also discover many private lands that are full of deer that can be hunted. A few private land holders will allow complete strangers to hunt on their lands and a few will not. The easiest way to find out is to simply knock on their door and ask them. Just keep in mind that you will most likely still need a license to hunt even on private property.

You'll find that most states have ruled that the game animals found on private property still belong to the state. This means that even if the deer is on a private person's property, it is still not their deer but is actually the state's deer.

If you are lucky enough to have a private area to hunt in, you can set up your hunting blinds well in advance. You'll be able to scout out the area and get everything ready well before your hunt. This is great because you will give the deer plenty of time to get used to your permanent hunting blinds.

On the other hand, if you are hunting on public lands, you will need to use portable hunting blinds. These blinds are not as good as permanent ones, but they do provide shelter from the wind. They'll also provide you with some concealment from both the sight and the scent of the deer.

The best way to hunt on public lands is to do it for multiple days at a time. When you hunt for multiple days at a time, you give yourself a chance to scout various areas for signs of deer trails. Because these lands are full of other hunters, you will have a lot of competition to contend with. Just remember that your success will depend on your scouting abilities just as much as your shooting abilities. After all, you can't shoot a deer that just isn't there.

Whether you are hunting on public or private lands, be sure to make full use of hunting blinds in good places. Your success will depend primarily on your scouting and shooting expertise as opposed to the land you are hunting on.
